Reggae Grammy Nominees For 2021
Written by RasMahddy on November 25, 2020
Year to year one of the most intriguing events is the Grammy awards. Everyone highly anticipates who will be nominated and who actually takes home the trophy. This years has been nothing short of what we expect from the Grammy selections. There’s always mixed emotions as to who made the nominations, and who didn’t get selected.
Beres Hammond without a doubt should have made the list once again this year. Skip Marley could have been on the outside looking in because he’s got a lot of career left. To receive the nomination this year I think is too early. Beres Hammond has more than earned that spot in my opinion.
Then there’s the masterpiece Buju Banton put together for 2020 “Upside Down” after being released from prison after serving ten years. With the amount of publicity he received after being released I would think that would be hard to top! He locked down the island, totally filled the national stadium, and put the whole worlds focus on Jamaica for the moment.
Maxi Priest has a fan base that extends far beyond age, race, social class, or anything else. It’s hard to predict if he will slip away with this years award but it is possible.
After the death of such a great man I don’t have to say give Toots and the Maytals the Grammy. That’s simple enough to figure out. What a better way to honor the Jamaican James Brown.
As for the Wailers I think totally because they tour 365 around the globe they stay relevant. Not relevant enough to take home a Grammy award in 2020 singing their catalog of ancient hits from the 70’s and 80’s though. I’m honestly going to say there’s about ten other artist that I could name that deserved this spot more. Off the top of my head Etana came to mind she had two great releases in 2020 Dimensions and Gemini.
