Jamaican Born Leon Edwards Successfully Defends His UFC Welterweight Title At UFC #286
Just moments ago in London, England, Leon Edwards faced the fight of his career. What got him going to overcome one of his greatest challenges ever was none other than, Dexta Daps Dancehall Reggae Anthem “Shabba Madda Pot”. The walk out song of a fighter plays the strategic role of preparing the fighter mentally for the battle their about to face. Certainly many who come from similar situations that Edwards has, can relate to the song because it reflects many of the experiences Leon Edwards faced throughout his life.
Edwards was born in Kingston, Jamaica. At the age of nine, Edwards relocated to Birmingham, England’s Aston district, and at the age of thirteen, his father was fatally shot in a London nightclub. After the death of his father he lived the street life until his mother got him join an MMA club. Edwards began his professional fighting career in 2010. Since joining the UFC Edwards has earned the respect of many who thought he would never achieve such greatness. Currently he is the UFC Welterweight Champion after successfully defending the UFC welterweight title at UFC 286 in London on Saturday night against Kamaru Usman. His record stands at 21-3-0 which is very impressive given the amount of talent in the Welterweight division.
In other words, like the song says he’s hot in the UFC like “Shabba Madda Pot”. For those who need more clarity on, Hot like “Shabba Madda Pot”. First of all it’s respect to Shabba Ranks for his success in the music industry. With Shabba’s success his “Madda” (Jamaican Patios) or “mother” has to be eating very well and so her “pot” must always “be hot”. The song refers to the scheme being “hot” which is slang for what can be described as a high amount violent activity. Hot Like Shabba Mother’s Pot in English.
