Kabaka Pyramid Wins The Grammy For Best Reggae Album

Written by on February 5, 2023

Kabaka Pyramid has cracked the code to achieving the highly coveted Grammy award for best Reggae album for his latest release “The Kalling“. The Reggae fraternity could relax this year after the backlash from last year when SOJA, the best-selling reggae band, won Best Reggae Album at the 64th Grammy Awards.

Koffee was nominated again for the second time, and many were thinking she would once again walk away with it again this year for her latest project entitled “Gifted“. Sean Paul made a strong entry with his release Scorcha which came as a bit of a surprise because release with a strong dance hall vibe are rarely recognized by the acedemy.

Protoje’s release “Third Time’s The Charm” which was described by the academy as polished contemporary reggae was the 50/50 selection. Many were surprised to see it was selected and there were those who thought it was well deserved.

Shaggy’s Com Fly Wid Mi β€” was the favorite because it is a lighthearted reggae fusion of classic easygoing joviality, singing covering the great Frank Sinatra catalog in a reggae style. Many like us thought for should the academy would love it enough to place it at the top position but we were mistaken.

Congratulations to Kabaka Pyramid, this is not taking anything away from the artist talent but we suspect some of the Marley knowledge and influence has rubbed off the right way. The topics that were covered in the music, and the creativity of the lyrics and production made “The Kalling” release really set itself apart from the pack.
