IRAWMA Looks ahead to 2023

Written by on January 27, 2022

The long-running International Reggae and World Music Awards (IRAWMA), which were originally scheduled to take place on May 1st this year, have been rescheduled for May 7th, 2023. Dr. Ephraim Martin, President of Martin’s International and Chairman of the Black Heroes Matter Coalition, made the announcement via Zoom Press Conference on Tuesday afternoon at the Martin’s International office in Chicago, while revealing the 2021 nominees for the 40th Anniversary of the Chicago Music Awards.

Martin’s International, based in Chicago, has been constrained to host its two most popular award shows, the annual Chicago Music Awards (CMA) and the International Reggae and World Music Awards (IRAWMA), virtually nearly since the beginning of the COVID-19 global epidemic.

This year, IRAWMA wanted to commemorate its 40th anniversary in Kingston, Jamaica, with a live audience consisted of attendees from all over the world. However, organizers thought that they would not be able to design and conduct the kind of event that would honor this milestone occasion due to the mounting cases of COVID-19 and the uncertainties that have come with them, as well as the restrictions that may still be in place in May.
