The Iconic Dub Reggae Pioneer, also known as “Zulu Warrior,” had previously said he will resume touring on August 19 until his death was confirmed on Wednesday (04.12.23).
Jah Shaka, also known as Zulu Warrior, was born in Jamaica, and relocated to London from Jamaica as a child in the late 1950’s as part of the Windrush generation. He started operating sound systems in the 1970s and rose to prominence in the second wave of British Sound systems, playing roots reggae to a young, predominantly Black British audience.
Before he started releasing his solo LPs in 1983, Jah Shaka played himself in the iconic 1980 movie Babylon, which featured a heavy soundclash with his fictional sound system Ital Lion. He carried on working as a producer, mixing engineer, performer, composer, and label owner of Jah Shaka Music throughout the 1980s and beyond. Additionally, he established the Jah Shaka Foundation, which offers educational and medical materials to kids in Ghana, Ethiopia, and Jamaica.
