The gold standard: Icons and rising stars ignite National Arena for 2026 Reggae Gold Awards

Written by on April 7, 2026

(ReggaeVibeMedia.com) – The National Arena in Kingston was transformed into a odyssey of musical excellence as the 2026 Reggae Gold Awards unfolded. Organized by the Ministry of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport in partnership with JaRIA, the ceremony served as a powerful tribute to the architects of Jamaica’s global soundtrack. Under a canopy of vibrant lights, the evening balanced high-octane performances with solemn inductions, proving that while the industry evolves, its foundation remains unshakable.

The night’s crowning moment belonged to the legendary Ken Boothe, who was officially inducted into the Jamaica Music Museum Hall of Fame. Receiving his citation from Minister Olivia “Babsy” Grange, the “Train is Coming” singer was ushered onstage by Romain Virgo in a poignant display of intergenerational respect. Other key honorees included Tony Rebel, who received the Wray & Nephew Cultural Impact Award, and Frankie Campbell, who was recognized with a Lifetime Achievement Award. The list of awardees read like a “who’s who” of industry stalwarts, featuring names such as Mikie Bennett, Lone Ranger, Pinchers, and Collin “Bulby” York, all celebrated for their decades of dedication.

Musically, the arena was electrified by a headlining set from Luciano, who performed alongside the Reggae Symphony Orchestra. The “Messenger” delivered a stirring selection of classics, including “It’s Me Again Jah” and “Sweep Over My Soul”. One of the most talked-about moments of the weekend featured Garnet Silk Jr. joining Luciano for a soulful rendition of “Place in Your Heart,” a tribute to his father’s enduring legacy. With additional stellar performances from Etana, Richie Stephens, and L.U.S.T., the 2026 staging successfully “mined the gold” of the genre, honoring the unseen custodians of the sound while ushering in a new era of ambassadors.
