(ReggaeVibeMedia.com) - Vybz Kartel says his next album is a "solar return," and he means it pretty literally. The dancehall star took to Instagram this week with a video breaking down the concept behind The Sun, which is set to land on December 18, according to a DancehallMag report published October 22.

"At this point in my life, it represents the actual rising of the sun. Not only rising, the way humans use the sun as a source of calendar," Kartel explained in the video. "I make a solar return to the original birth of Vybz Kartel."

He was just as direct about why he keeps recording. "I have nothing to prove. I do this for the love," he said. "I'm always striving to be better. My real joy in music is like my real joy in everything: purpose. That's what really drives Vybz Kartel."

The Sun will be his second album of 2026, adding to a run that already includes the Viking (Vybz Is King) 10th Year Anniversary, the Grammy-nominated Heart & Soul, and God & Time, per DancehallMag.

On the sound, Kartel promised "just hardcore lyrics, talking about my life, hopes, dreams, fears" — a description longtime fans will hear as a nod to the raw, lyric-first approach that built his name. Behind the boards is producer Chambah Music, whom Kartel has worked closely with in recent months.

The rollout is already underway: Kartel's Instagram bio currently promotes The Sun with a preorder link. He also told Zip 103 FM this month that Chris Brown will feature on the project, which he described as a deluxe edition of God & Time, with more major Afrobeats features still unnamed, according to DancehallMag's earlier reporting.

The release keeps pace with Kartel's remarkable run since walking out of prison in 2024 after more than a decade behind bars — an output streak few younger acts could match.
