Rygin King landed in Jamaica on Thursday, October 22, ending months in U.S. immigration detention. According to DancehallMag, the 'Tuff' deejay chose home over continued custody amid health concerns, opting for what sources described as 'voluntary deportation.' His return follows the reported dismissal of the New York weapons case that complicated his proceedings, though his U.S. immigration future remains unresolved.

(ReggaeVibeMedia.com) — Rygin King is home. The "Tuff" deejay landed in Jamaica on Thursday afternoon, ending months behind detention walls in the United States after choosing home over continued immigration detention, according to DancehallMag, which cited sources close to the entertainer.

The report says the artist — born Matthew Smith — opted for what those sources described as "voluntary deportation," putting his health first after months in custody. Questions about his U.S. immigration future remain unresolved, and the precise legal terms of his departure are still unclear.

His homecoming follows the reported dismissal last week of the New York weapons and ammunition case that had complicated his immigration proceedings — though the outlet is clear that the dismissal has not been independently confirmed through court records.

King was detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement in March 2026, reportedly just hours before a scheduled green card interview. The detention stemmed from unresolved charges arising from a July 2024 arrest in Queens, New York, where police said a loaded firearm was found during a traffic stop. The deejay pleaded not guilty.

Sources close to the artiste believe the reported dismissal could open a path to revisiting his green card application — but there is no confirmation the application has been reinstated or that he has permission to return to the United States.

For dancehall fans, the return carries extra weight. King has been living with major physical challenges since a 2020 shooting in Westmoreland, Jamaica, in which his manager's wife, Sashalee Blackwood, was killed and the deejay was shot three times. He later moved to the U.S. for orthopedic consultations and rehabilitation, and his two albums, Therapy and Recovery, drew heavily from that period — a comeback arc that earned him one of dancehall's most loyal followings.

For now, as DancehallMag put it, the biggest development is closer to home: after months in U.S. custody, Rygin King is back in Jamaica.
