Kabaka Pyramid Has been consistently releasing conscious Roots Reggae music since his debut back in 2011. Kabaka brought his roots with quality as you can hear in his second album entitled “Kontraband”.
Kontraband has been a few years in the making. With hit singles like “Can’t breath” and “Well Done” being released during the past two years has caused a serious buzz in the industry. Both tracks being produced by Damian Marley gave the album more reason to listen. This was the first of a few releases produced by Damian Marley.
The 16 track album “Kontraband” release by 2018 Bebble Rock/Ghetto Youths International, LLC is Kabaka’s 2nd studio album. The album sounds as if a formula was put together and implemented in this project. The album features collaborated works with a few names house hold names like Damian Marley, Akon, Pressure Busspipe, Chronixx, Protoje, Stonebwoy, and Nattali Rise.
On the track “Make way” Kabaka teams up with the Virgin Islands big artist Pressure Busspipe which kicks off the album in a strong way. Like many of the albums produced right now you get more digitally produced music from this album rather than live instrumentation.
Over all the album is very well put together. It is in my opinion missing the Hip-Hop flavor that Kabaka has been known for especially on one of his hardest tracks the single Kabaka vs. Pyramid which is not featured on this album. The album does bring this generations version of one drop, hardcore roots reggae.
Tracks like #10 Africans Arise which could turn into an anthem for this generation of Selassie I soldiers, and #14 Natural Woman which is a beautiful message to the women makes this album very solid “Well Done”.
