The murder trial for Vybz kartel and 4 other co-accused in the killing of Clive ‘Lizard’ Williams which was scheduled to end sometime last week could be turned over to the jury this weekend. This week marks a four-month-old trial, the longest in Jamaicas History. Wednesday added another twist when one of the jurors was unavailable to attend court due to sickness causing a delay in the proceedings. Presiding judge, Lennox Campbell, is expected to resume his summation of the evidence in the case at 10 o’clock this morning. He is expected to complete the review of evidence from Detective Sergeant Patrick Linton, a former head of the Police Cybercrimes Unit. The policeman had introduced call records, text messages and voice notes in the trial. The judge has reviewed the evidence of 13 of 24 witnesses called in the case.
The judge instructed the 11 jurors to bear in mind that the defence has consistently argued that the police had acted unprofessionally and corrupt in order to secure the conviction of Vybz Kartel, Shawn 'Shawn Storm' Campbell, Kahira Jones, Shane Williams and Andre St John, all of whom are accused of the beating death of Clive 'Lizard' Williams in August 2011. Williams was allegedly killed over two missing guns.
